If you are ready to get your idea started or have started your business and are ready to grow, the Certificate of Entrepreneurship program is for you.
How Does it Work?
In the Make StartUPs Certificate of Entrepreneurship program, you will learn and demonstrate the skills necessary to build and grow a business through cohort-based learning and practical application in your own business. This course will focus on business planning, technology, financing, and law, with successful graduates able to identify specific product-market fit, sales, distribution, and fulfillment channels specific to their own business. As a result of the training, starters will be prepared to start their business and should have the following in place at the close of the certificate program:
- Business model and business plan in place
- Business licensing and legal structure completed
- Financial plan in place and prepared to pursue financial assistance
- Have or prepared to pursue any needed patents, copyrights, trademarks, or trade secrets
What to Expect
The Make StartUPs Certificate of Entrepreneurship program is a nine-month program. In the first 12 weeks, you will attend three hours of courses and one hour of mentorship. In addition, you are required to work for an additional 20 hours on your business. This will include business model creation, customer discovery, financial analysis, and more. After completing the 12-week curriculum, you are required to continue six months of mentorship.
During the Certificate of Entrepreneurship program at StartUP Columbus, you will develop and fine-tune your idea, critically examining every part of it and tweaking your next steps through real-time feedback from people in the community. Over the twelve-week curriculum portion of the program, we’ll cover the following topics.

Session 12: Pitch Practice | Wrapping it Up
The Make StartUPs Certificate of Entrepreneurship curriculum at StartUP Columbus lasts 12 weeks, meeting weekly for three hours. Facilitators include mentors and active entrepreneurs. Guest speakers include local specialists and professionals from the leading marketing and branding agencies, legal and finance firms, and other local entrepreneurs.
Multiple fully-funded scholarships are available for those accepted into the Certificate of Entrepreneurship program. The total program fee is $5,900, which includes course materials, membership to the StartUP Columbus Incubator, a two-year subscription to QuickBooks, and nine months of one-on-one mentors to address your business development needs. As a participant in StartUP Columbus programming, you will gain access to entrepreneurial community events, networking opportunities, and small business resources. All class participants will be added to the StartUP Columbus network of startups for up-to-date access to new resources.

Whether you’re an owner of an existing business looking to grow or you have an idea and are looking to start, we encourage you to apply. You will need a well-articulated description of the product or service you offer (or plan on offering) and a description of your consumer, client, or target audience. We’re looking for entrepreneurs who represent a diverse range of sectors and backgrounds to establish a cohort that incorporates both established businesses and startup concepts. We screen our applicants, and space is limited.
Deposit and Registration
There is an application fee of $25 for those accepted into the program (due prior to the first day of class). If requesting a scholarship, you will receive information upon being accepted into the program. All payments are due prior to the start of the course.
